Program Overview
The Hospital DVT Prophylaxis Strategies program provides a comprehensive overview of successful protocols and techniques employed to prevent the occurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the hospital patient population.
DVTeamCareTM Hospital Award
Featured at this program are the winners of the second annual DVTeamCareTM Hospital Award which provides national recognition to hospitals that have made a significant commitment to preventing DVT and its potentially fatal complications. NATF was engaged by Eisai, Inc. to identify award judges and to develop appropriate criteria.* Of the 16 hospitals that applied, 4 winners have been chosen to present their hospital DVT strategies.

This program is intended for healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, physician assistants, pharmacists, hospitalists, and hospital administrators who are interested in thrombosis treatment and prevention.

About the Keynote Speakers
Alok A. Khorana, MD, FACP is Vice-Chief of the Division of Hematology/Oncology and Associate Professor of Medicine and Oncology at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center at the University of Rochester in New York. He earned his medical degree from the Maharaja Sayajirao University in Baroda, India and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Bu_alo in New York, followed by a Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the James P. Wilmot Cancer Center, University of Rochester, New York. Dr. Khorana’s clinical and translational research program focuses on predictive factors in cancer-associated thrombosis. He is Co-Chair of the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis Scientific Subcommittee on Hemostasis and Malignancy, and serves on the American Society of Clinical Oncology Venous Thromboembolism Guidelines Panel. He is also a member of the U.S. Pharmacopoeia Oncology Expert Committee, and the gastrointestinal committees of the Southwest Oncology Group and American College of Surgeons Oncology Group. Dr. Khorana is Associate Editor for Cancer Investigation and is coauthor of numerous articles, abstracts, and book chapters.
Robert C. Pendleton, MD is Associate Professor of Medicine (Clinical) at the University of Utah. After completing his medical school training at Baylor College of Medicine in 1997 and Internal Medicine residency at the University of Utah in 2000, he began his career as a full-time Hospitalist where he serves as the Co-Director of the General Medicine Hospitalist Program at the University of Utah Medical Center. In this capacity, he has helped direct the growth of a clinically active inpatient and consultative program with a strong emphasis on quality of care and excellence in bedside and didactic teaching. In addition to being a Hospitalist, Dr. Pendleton’s other academic pursuits include the optimal use of antithrombotic therapies, development of new anticoagulation agents, and the prevention, diagnosis and management of venous thromboembolism. He is the Medical Director of the University Healthcare Thrombosis Service, a large multidisciplinary service committed to advancing patient care through innovative management approaches, providing novel local, regional, and national CE education, and advancing knowledge through participation in clinical and translational research. As Medical Director of the University of Utah Advancements via Hospitalists (UTAH) translational program, he is currently the principal investigator on 13 different clinical trials in the area of thromboembolism management and prevention.
