Program Overview

The University of Utah Health Care Thrombosis Service will host the first Biennial Western Regional Thrombosis Symposium and Working Group Session in 2010. The purpose of this one and a hald-day scientific and academic medical conference is to foster consensus building and collaboration amoung multidisciplinary Western Regional leaders, and to encourage scientific discovery and medical education with regard to thrombosis diagnosis, treatment and prevention in both clinical and research practices and health professional and public education outreach.

Our objective is to optimize patient care. To this end, the Symposium is designed to provide the most up-to-date information to assist with the implementation of evidence-based management strategies for patients with venous and arterial thrombotic diseases, such as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), pulmonary embolism (PE), myocardial infarction, peripheral artertial disease, and stroke. The target audience includes community and hospital-based physicians, basic and translational scientists, pharmacists, physician assistants, nurses, administrators, and allied health professionals from throughout the Western Regional United States.

State-of-the-art interactive presentioanls, panel discussion, and "Breakfast With the Experts," will provide numerous opportunities attendees to discuss real patient cases with leaders in the field, network with colleagues, and gain knowledge that can impact practice strategies.

The Junior Faculty and Trainee Mentorship and Networking Luncheon is intended to provide 4th year medical students, pharmacy residents and students, junior faculty, clinicians and scientists interested in a career in thrombosis treatment and prevention, a unique opportunity to seek advice from established experts in the field and leanr valuable information about career planning and institutional resources.

WESTERN THROMBOSIS WORKING GROUP SESSION
(CLOSED INVITATIONAL)

The Western Thrombosis Working Group Session is a half-day, closed, working meeting, where leaders and innovators in thrombosis research, treatment and prevention convene to 1) identify gaps in current thrombosis research, clinical service, education, and career development, and 2) formulate recommendations for addressing those gaps. This dynamic meeting is intended to serve as a consensus building exercise that fosters collaboration amoung Western Regional institutions committed to improving thrombosis clinical research practice standards, competency, and encourage multidisciplinary career development.
